Fifteen people were arrested in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State for breaching environmental regulations during a police enforcement operation. The crackdown, part of the Ogun State police command's "Operation No Traffic Gridlock," took place along the Abekoko and Old Bank sections of the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway. Spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Friday, noting the suspects flouted lawful directives and violated environmental laws. The operation removed obstructions including planks, shanties, trucks, and trading wares that impeded traffic flow. Over six trucks were used to evacuate seized items. Oluseyi said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved and reaffirmed the command's resolve to enforce traffic and environmental laws. He warned that anyone obstructing public roads would face legal consequences and urged traders and transport operators to adhere to regulations for public safety.

💡 NaijaBuzz Take

Targeting roadside traders won't fix Ogun's traffic crisis—CP Bode Ojajuni's show of force may clear the highway today, but it doesn't address the lack of designated markets or infrastructure planning. Arresting 15 people and removing shanties offers the appearance of action, but without alternative spaces for traders, the same structures will return. This enforcement benefits optics more than long-term urban order.
