Dr. Bala Wunti, former Chief Upstream Investment Officer at NNPC Upstream Investment Services, has officially entered the race for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship under the All Progressives Congress. He announced his candidacy during a visit to the APC's Bauchi Local Government chapter, where he was formally presented to party leaders by the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Yahaya Mohammed Miya. A press statement from Abubakar Al-Sadique, Chief Communication Officer of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation, stated that Wunti's decision followed persistent demands from citizens and stakeholders across the state.
Wunti said, "Allah knows I only accepted to contest because of the pressure mounted on me to help rescue the future of our unemployed youth and safeguard the next generation." He pledged loyalty to the APC and promised an inclusive administration focused on sustainable development and equal opportunity if elected. The APC Chairman for Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, welcomed Wunti, describing him as a distinguished son of the state with a proven record in mentorship and community development. "His contributions have shaped individuals capable of occupying top leadership positions, including that of governor," Biyali said.
Speculation is growing over a possible gubernatorial bid by former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, who resigned from his position earlier in the week.
