Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace arrested two individuals impersonating security operatives during a late-night operation in Dutse Uku, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. The arrests occurred at approximately 11:45 pm on Thursday following a distress call about sporadic shooting and arson in the area. Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, media information officer for the task force, stated the suspects were dressed in tactical black uniforms and were caught setting homes on fire and inciting violence. They are now in military custody.
Two gunshot victims were evacuated to a medical facility and are in stable condition. The military said the arrests counter recent claims of its involvement in the Jos North unrest, asserting that criminal elements in fake uniforms are responsible for the violence. In a separate operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops disrupted a group of terrorists moving on motorcycles. After engagement, three insurgents were neutralised and the rest fled. The Chief of Army Staff had ordered the deployment of a battalion plus specialised counter-terrorism units earlier on Thursday, a move credited with boosting operational success in the region.
