A three-day-old baby boy has been rescued by the Nasarawa State Police Command after being snatched from his mother's home in Mararaba. The abduction occurred on March 28, 2026, at around 11:50 a.m., when two men broke into an uncompleted building in Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, Karu Local Government Area, threatened the infant's mother, Aisha Bada, 19, and fled with the newborn. SP Ramhan Nansel, police spokesman, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday. Bada had reported the incident at a local police station on March 29, prompting immediate action from Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed, who ordered detectives from Mararaba 'A' Division to investigate. Acting on intelligence, police arrested two suspects—Furera Abdulrahman, 35, from Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, of Unguwan Bako—on Thursday at about 4 a.m. The baby was recovered from their possession. Both suspects confessed during interrogation and named a third accomplice who remains at large. The infant was examined at Mararaba Medical Centre, certified healthy, and returned to his parents. The case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia after preliminary inquiries.
A 19-year-old mother had her newborn stolen while sleeping in an uncompleted building, exposing how vulnerable young families are in informal settlements. The swift arrest of two suspects and recovery of the baby shows police can act fast when leads are clear. But the fact that the baby was taken in broad daylight from a residential area points to deeper failures in community safety. Until more is done to secure such spaces, even the smallest lives remain at risk.
