Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a pastor, his wife, and a woman alleged to be a key drug supplier to bandits. The arrests followed a three-week intelligence-driven operation targeting a drug trafficking syndicate. During the operation, NDLEA intercepted consignments of cocaine hidden in tins of palm kernel extract destined for the United Kingdom. The shipment was discovered at a logistics hub in Ogun State. Raids conducted in Abeokuta led to the seizure of additional drugs and the arrest of the suspects. The pastor, identified as Pastor Emmanuel Ojo, and his wife, Mrs. Grace Ojo, were taken into custody along with one Funke Adebayo, who is suspected of supplying narcotics to armed groups in the northwest. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Boroffice confirmed the arrests and stated that the agency recovered 4.8 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of N240 million. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the network.

A pastor and his wife in custody changes nothing about Nigeria's drug economy if corruption in religious and security circles remains unchecked. The arrest of Pastor Emmanuel Ojo and the alleged link between Funke Adebayo and armed groups suggest organised crime has embedded itself in both spiritual and criminal networks. With 4.8 kilograms of cocaine worth N240 million headed for the UK, the profit margins reveal why the trade thrives. NDLEA's success in this case stands out only because such high-profile religious figures rarely face prosecution.
