An explosion involving a compressed natural gas (CNG) bus occurred at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna State, damaging two vehicles in the early hours of Sunday. The incident happened at Silver Luxury Travel, a transport company operating gas-powered buses, with the blast reported around 3:00 a.m. according to Kaduna State Police Command. A garage worker, Abdulkadir Abdullahi, said the explosion originated from a luxury bus and caused panic, though no injuries or fatalities were recorded. Two luxury buses were damaged but have since been evacuated from the garage.
Police confirmed the explosion was not caused by a bomb but by overfilling of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank on the bus. DSP Mansir Hassan, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police, stated that detectives and the Police Bomb Disposal Unit were dispatched as a precaution. Commissioner of Police CP Muhammad Rabiu has ordered a full investigation into the cause. The police also urged the public to verify information before sharing, noting that false reports on security issues can create unnecessary fear.
A gas-powered bus exploded due to overfilling, not sabotage, yet panic spread before facts emerged. CP Muhammad Rabiu now leads an investigation into a preventable technical failure at Silver Luxury Travel. This incident shows how quickly misinformation can amplify fear, even when the real cause is mechanical. For Nigerians, it underscores the risks of rapid CNG adoption without strict safety enforcement.
