Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, former Senator for Jigawa Central, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He was accompanied by several notable political figures from Jigawa State, including Bala Ibrahim Chamo, former Chairman of Dutse Local Government under ex-Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, and Zakari Kafin Hausa, who served as Special Adviser to Governor Malam Umar Namadi. Also making the move are Zahraddeen Abubakar, former Chairman of Gwaram LGA, and Shehu Sule Udi, former Chairman of Ringim LGA. The defections were announced through separate statements, with Nakudu citing the need for a political platform rooted in internal democracy and grassroots development.
Nakudu declared his intention to contest the 2027 Jigawa State governorship election under the ADC banner. He described the party as a credible alternative capable of addressing the state's pressing challenges. "Our decision is borne out of deep reflection and consultation with our supporters. We believe the ADC provides a credible platform to actualize our vision for a better Jigawa," Nakudu said. The shift of prominent APC members to the ADC is expected to reshape political dynamics in the lead-up to the next general elections. No official response had been received from APC state leadership at the time of reporting.
Sabo Nakudu's exit from the APC signals a rare crack in the party's grip on Jigawa's political elite. By choosing the ADC—a party with limited national footprint—he risks being sidelined but gains full control of his political narrative. This move could encourage other disaffected APC figures to explore smaller parties rather than wait in line for favours. For Jigawa voters, it means the 2027 race may see more personal ambitions on display than ideological debates.
