Hadiza Jega, wife of former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Attahiru Jega, has passed away. The announcement was confirmed by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in a condolence statement posted on Facebook. He described her as a woman of grace, dignity, and remarkable virtue, whose impact extended beyond her immediate family.
Malami offered prayers for the deceased, requesting that Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and provide strength to Professor Jega and the family. Hadiza Jega's funeral prayer is scheduled for Sunday, 5th April 2026, at the National Mosque in Abuja. The event was announced by Bayero University, where Jega previously served as Vice-Chancellor.
Attahiru Jega, a professor, currently holds the position of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education (SRCOE) in Kumbotso, Kano State. In 2025, President Bola Tinubu appointed him as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform Initiative.
