Nafiu Bala, the factional chairman of the Advanced Democratic Change (ADC), has denied submitting a resignation letter, claiming his signature was forged. In a video released by Rariya Hausa, Bala stated he did not authorise any resignation and that the document circulating under his name was fraudulent. His denial comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a resolution on Wednesday addressing the ongoing leadership tussle within the ADC. INEC's decision referenced the alleged resignation as part of its considerations in the matter. Bala insisted he remains committed to leading his faction of the party and challenged anyone to prove he stepped down voluntarily. He called on INEC to disregard the forged document in its deliberations.
That Nafiu Bala had to publicly deny resigning suggests the ADC's internal chaos has spilled into document forgery—a move that undermines party credibility. With INEC already involved, the presence of a forged signature raises concerns about the integrity of submissions from political actors. This episode does little to inspire confidence in the ADC's ability to manage its affairs, let alone present a viable alternative in Nigeria's political landscape. For voters, it reinforces a familiar pattern: infighting dressed as democracy.
