The killing of Ebonyi monarch Igwe Emmanuel Ezenwaofor has been described as barbaric by Governor Francis Nwifuru. Nwifuru condemned the attack, calling it a direct assault on the peace, unity, and collective conscience of Ebonyi State. Ezenwaofor, the traditional ruler of Ezzamgbo community in Izzi Local Government Area, was reportedly killed in a violent incident on Saturday. No group has claimed responsibility, and security agencies have not released an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the killing. This is the second reported killing of a monarch in the state within six months. The first was the death of Igwe Benjamin Eze, who was murdered in December 2023.
Governor Nwifuru's outrage rings hollow when monarchs keep dying without arrests or preventive action. Two kings killed in six months, yet no visible security overhaul in rural Ebonyi. If the state cannot protect its symbols of authority, ordinary citizens are even more exposed. This pattern suggests failure, not just tragedy.
