Nafiu Bala, who claims to be the deputy national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denied submitting a resignation letter. In a video released through Rariya Hausa, Mr Bala said his signature was forged and he did not authorise any resignation. This comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a resolution on Wednesday regarding a leadership crisis within the ADC. INEC's decision recognised a rival faction led by Obiageli Onwuka as the legitimate leadership of the party. Mr Bala rejected the resolution, insisting he remains in office and that the documents used to support claims of his resignation are fraudulent.
A party official caught on the losing side of an INEC ruling suddenly discovers his signature was forged — a familiar script in Nigerian political disputes. Nafiu Bala's denial does little to shift the reality that INEC has already validated a new ADC leadership structure. For voters, this means yet another opposition party remains entangled in internal chaos ahead of future elections. Political theatrics like this rarely change outcomes; they only deepen public scepticism.
