Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the only political party capable of controlling Kano and Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking to a large crowd of supporters who welcomed him back from APC activities in Abuja, Yusuf dismissed the prospects of opposition parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC). "APC in Kano State is the only winning party. There is no other party that can take control of Kano and Nigeria, by the grace of Allah," he said. He responded to speculation about being a one-term governor by affirming his political longevity in the APC, stating, "We did one term in NNPP and left. We will do the second term in APC. There are two terms in APC, the party of the people."
Yusuf pledged full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, crediting him with progress in the economy and infrastructure. He urged residents to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to support APC in the next election. The Kano State APC Chairman, Umar Doguwa, described the massive turnout as proof of public backing for Yusuf's re-election. The governor's convoy took hours to travel from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Government House, a journey normally completed in 15 minutes.
Abba Yusuf's victory lap through Kano's streets is less about public mandate and more about demonstrating control over political space. With eight former NNPP lawmakers already defecting to APC, the calculus is clear: alignment with power trumps party loyalty. For ordinary Kano residents, this display signals that access to governance may depend more on political allegiance than policy. The speed of his convoy's crawl through adoring crowds may be memorable, but it's the speed of political realignment that will shape 2027.
