Obilor Okeke has opened up about his departure from Hammarby IF, revealing he left the club after being told his performances would not secure regular playing time. The 23-year-old Nigerian forward joined IF Brommapojkarna last month following Hammarby's signing of Norway U21 international Victor Lind for a reported 2.6 million euros in February 2026. Okeke made just two Allsvenskan starts in eleven available after arriving from KFUM Oslo, struggling to break into a crowded wide attacking unit. He said manager Kalle Karlsson and sporting director Micke Hjelmberg informed him the club would prioritise investment in Lind regardless of how well he performed. "They bought Lind for a lot of money and said they would invest in him, that he would play a lot. So even if I were to start and do well, jump in and do well or do well in training, they said it would be difficult for me to get playing time," Okeke told Sportbladet. He described the moment as painful, stating, "What can I say... It was an unpleasant feeling. It hurt to hear it." Okeke previously faced limited minutes at Fredrikstad in Norway, where he responded by winning Young Player of the Year after leaving. He now carries a similar motivation, saying he wants to prove Brommapojkarna right for believing in him. Okeke is in line to make his debut for Brommapojkarna when they face BK Häcken in their season opener on Monday afternoon.
