Samsung TV Plus has added the Amazon Live FAST channel to its free streaming lineup, allowing users to shop while they watch. The channel, which launched on Prime Video in 2024, uses Shop the Show technology so viewers can buy products featured in broadcasts using their mobile devices. By scanning an on-screen QR code, users get a synchronized experience in the Amazon Shopping app, where they can browse items and join live chats on their phones. The content includes live shopping events, celebrity-hosted broadcasts and original series such as In Bed with Paige DeSorbo, Pick Your Prize and Shopping Court. These segments are tied to Amazon shopping events and designed to blend entertainment with instant purchasing. The Amazon Live FAST channel is available on Samsung Smart TVs released after 2016, Galaxy devices, Smart Monitors and Family Hub refrigerators. According to a Samsung TV Plus press release, the integration aims to make shopping more interactive and accessible during live streams.
When Samsung and Amazon say they're merging live video with shopping, they're not just adding a feature—they're testing whether Nigerians will treat their TV screens like digital market stalls. Given how quickly mobile commerce grew around Paystack and Flutterwave, the real question is whether local platforms can build something similar without relying on US tech giants to show the way. This isn't just entertainment with a buy button; it's a blueprint for how video could drive e-commerce in African homes. The infrastructure is here—now someone just needs to adapt it.
