Dangote Cement Transport Embarks on Large-Scale Tree Planting Exercise
As part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability, the Transport Unit of Dangote Cement Plc has launched a large-scale tree-planting exercise to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Forests. The initiative, which is part of the company's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, saw the distribution of seedlings to 13 schools and the planting of hundreds of trees. Divisional Director Transport, Col Hemant Rana (Rtd), highlighted the importance of forests in regulating the climate, supporting biodiversity, and providing essential resources for humans.
According to Col. Rana, the awareness session and demonstration are designed to educate and inspire stakeholders while taking practical steps to mitigate deforestation and environmental degradation. The symbolic tree planting and distribution of seedlings to selected schools aim to build a culture of environmental stewardship among the younger generation. Dangote Cement Transport's Sustainability Lead, Mr. Olumide Balogun, noted that forests are not just collections of trees but life-support systems that regulate rainfall, improve air quality, and provide habitat for countless species.
The company's commitment to expanding its tree-planting efforts is a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and supporting the livelihoods of communities. As the biggest employer of labour in Nigeria, Dangote Group's efforts in this regard are expected to have a positive impact on the environment and the economy.
