The West African Examinations Council has finally released the 2026 timetable for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. The examination is set to kick off on April 21, 2026, and wrap up on June 19, 2026. This year's schedule outlines key dates for practicals, theory papers, and core subjects across different phases of the examination period.
According to WAEC, candidates with special needs, including the blind, deaf, and dumb, will receive extra time to complete their exams. They will be granted one and a half times the standard duration allocated to other candidates. The council has also provided special arrangements for certain subjects and candidates, such as Visual Art papers, which will receive instructions and question materials in advance.
The release of the timetable comes on the heels of the recent announcement of results for the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE for private candidates. WAEC reported that 3,429 candidates, representing 32.72%, obtained a minimum of five credits including English and Mathematics. However, 2,062 candidates still have outstanding results due to issues attributed to them, while 75 candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice.
The timetable outlines key dates for practicals, theory papers, and core subjects across different phases of the examination period. Providing guidance to candidates, WAEC stressed that in cases where there is a discrepancy between the duration stated on the timetable and that on the question paper, candidates must adhere strictly to the time indicated on the question paper.
The 2026 WASSCE timetable is a significant milestone for school candidates, offering them a clear roadmap to success. However, the fact that 75 candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining the integrity of the examination process. As the countdown to the exams begins, it's essential for candidates to stay focused and adhere to the guidelines to ensure a smooth and successful experience.
