Kano State has declared 32 of its 44 local government areas free from open defecation, marking a significant step in its sanitation drive. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services amid a stakeholders' engagement hosted by Self Help Africa. Mr. Timothy Ibeawuchi, Team Lead, WASH Systems for Health Programme at Self Help Africa, confirmed the milestone, noting sustained efforts across communities. The initiative is part of a broader push to strengthen public health systems and reduce disease transmission linked to poor sanitation. No specific timeline was given for achieving ODF status in the remaining 12 LGAs.
