Troops from the Nigerian Army's Operation UDO KA killed a suspected kidnapper and rescued a victim during a pre-dawn operation in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The operation took place on April 3, 2026, at approximately 6:05 am, following a distress call from the Nigeria Police Force, Obolo Division, which was triggered by a report from the Ezimo Community Neighbourhood Watch. Security sources confirmed that personnel from 82 Division Garrison and Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA responded to the intelligence and engaged the suspects in a gun battle. "One of the suspects was neutralised, while others fled into the surrounding bush," a source said.

A follow-up search led to the rescue of a kidnapped individual. Recovered items at the scene included six mobile phones, a power bank, a torchlight, energy drinks, clothing, and food items. The body of the suspected kidnapper and the rescued victim were handed over to the police for further action. Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and stabilise security in the area.
