President Bola Tinubu inaugurated a N73 billion Federal Operations Unit Zone 'A' complex for the Nigeria Customs Service in Iperu, Ogun State, on Saturday. The facility, spread across 100 hectares, will house 142 buildings, including a training college, university, and sports complex. At 45 per cent completion, the project aims to replace the outdated Ikeja office, which can no longer support current operational demands. Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi said the new site would boost revenue collection, trade efficiency, and enforcement across Lagos and adjoining regions. He requested the president's approval to adjust initial project parameters to ensure completion within Tinubu's tenure.
Adeniyi credited Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing the land and former Comptroller-General Ahmed Alli for initiating the project. A new Customs warehouse within the complex is nearly finished, with plans to support aviation and land cargo operations. Officers have already been posted to Ogun airport to manage tarmac and terminal cargo activities, following six months of federal engagement. Contractor Mohammed Daggash described the development as a transformative investment in the service's long-term capacity.
