A coalition of Surulere stakeholders has warned Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, against pushing for Hon. Desmond Elliot's fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly. The group opposes any move to impose Elliot as candidate for Surulere Constituency 1, citing growing public dissatisfaction. They claim residents are no longer willing to accept political decisions made without their input. The stakeholders described the idea of a fourth term for Elliot as disconnected from the mood on the ground. They demanded that the All Progressives Congress (APC) allow a transparent and democratic candidate selection process. "The people of Surulere must be allowed to choose their representative," the group stated. No official response has been issued by Gbajabiamila or Elliot.
Desmond Elliot's push for a fourth term exposes the disconnect between some political figures and their constituents. When stakeholders feel the need to publicly reject a sitting representative, it signals eroded trust. For Surulere voters, this is less about opposition and more about reclaiming agency in candidate selection. Any imposition by party leaders will likely fuel resentment, not stability.
