Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has dismissed Garba Ahmed, a staff member of the Registry Department, for misconduct linked to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation process. The Governing Council of the university approved his termination during its 176th meeting on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. Ahmed was found guilty of illegally uploading unqualified students into the NYSC system, a breach of institutional and national service regulations. The decision was confirmed in a statement released by Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, Director of Information and Public Relations at UDUS. His dismissal takes immediate effect from the date of the Council's resolution. The university reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on gross misconduct, particularly actions undermining academic and national service integrity.
Garba Ahmed's sacking exposes how deeply some individuals are willing to compromise national institutions for personal or external gain. One unqualified student cleared for NYSC due to such actions means another deserving graduate misses out. This incident reflects a broader pattern of systemic abuse that erodes public trust in tertiary institutions and national programmes. The fact that it took a Governing Council meeting to address this suggests such breaches may be more common than acknowledged.
