Erin-Osun and Ilobu Communities Witness Police Clampdown
The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 18 suspects in connection with the recent attack on police officers in Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities. The suspects were apprehended through sustained intelligence-led operations coordinated by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan. The police statement revealed that community leaders, including Olaitan Bashiru, Tajudeen Aralamo, and Mustau Salam, were among those arrested. Other suspects include Jimoh Nurudeen, Adeboye Ashifa, Ajibola Segun, and several others.
The police recovered several exhibits during the operation, including a single-barrel gun, one live cartridge, and a cutlass. The Command assured that all those involved in the criminal act will face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects, and the public is urged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.
The police had earlier confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the attack, and additional individuals linked to the incident are being tracked for arrest. The officers were attacked while responding to intelligence regarding a potential breakdown of peace between the Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities.
The arrest of community leaders in connection with the attack on police officers in Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities raises serious questions about the level of involvement of influential individuals in the region. The fact that several exhibits were recovered during the operation suggests that the suspects were well-armed and prepared for the attack. The police must now ensure that those responsible face justice to prevent similar incidents in the future.
