Fifteen people were taken into police custody in Ogun State for breaching environmental laws and disobeying official orders in Ifo. The arrest occurred during a police operation tagged "No Traffic Gridlock," aimed at clearing obstructions on major roads. According to DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the suspects were found operating illegal markets and structures that contributed to traffic congestion and environmental degradation. The operation took place on Saturday, with no injuries reported. DSP Babaseyi stated that the suspects would be charged with contravention of environmental protection laws and obstruction of lawful directives. Police confirmed that affected roadways have been cleared and normal traffic flow restored in the area.
Arresting 15 people for environmental violations during a traffic operation suggests enforcement is reactive, not preventive. DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi's statement confirms authorities are resorting to crackdowns instead of sustained public engagement. If the goal is lasting order in Ifo, one police exercise won't reset years of urban neglect.
