Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has reassured Nigerians of the Federal Government's resolve to combat terrorism and insecurity affecting parts of the country. His statement was issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, during Easter celebrations. Akpabio urged citizens to uphold peace, tolerance, and unity across religious and ethnic lines. He extended Easter greetings on behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate, and the National Assembly to Christians in Nigeria and worldwide.
He called for reflection on the values of love and peaceful coexistence central to the Easter message. Acknowledging ongoing national challenges, particularly insecurity, Akpabio affirmed that the President and security agencies are actively working to curb violence. He expressed sympathy for families affected by recent attacks, specifically mentioning the killings in Jos. "The president is not resting on his oars and the Armed Forces and all security agencies have been working relentlessly to tame the tide," he said. He prayed for divine guidance and national healing.
Archbishop Adewale Martins of the Lagos Archdiocese separately urged political leaders to end the wave of killings, citing recent violence in Kwara, Nasarawa, and Plateau States.
Akpabio's message echoes familiar rhetoric, not new action. Nigerians have heard assurances before, even after Jos was bloodied multiple times. Words of sympathy mean little when families keep burying victims of recurring attacks. Without concrete results from the security agencies he praised, this Easter message is just another ritual.
