Two people died and 10 were injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Gombe-Yola Road on Friday evening, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed. The accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. in Gona community due to a tyre burst, according to Sector Commander Samson Kaura. He stated that the vehicle was traveling from Gombe to Yola when the incident happened, leading to multiple injuries ranging from head trauma to bruises and body cuts. Emergency response teams from the FRSC arrived at the scene and transported the injured to the Federal Teaching Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital mortuary.
Kaura attributed the tyre burst to possible overloading, speeding, or poor vehicle maintenance. He emphasized that initial findings pointed to dangerous driving practices as a contributing factor. "Preliminary investigation showed that the crash was caused by a tyre burst, possibly linked to dangerous driving, overloading, or excessive speed," Kaura said. He urged drivers to avoid prioritizing profit or haste over safety, reminding them that passengers had families waiting at home. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which remained a lone crash.
