Akpabio's call for unity during Easter rings hollow given his own history of stoking political tensions. While the message of peace is welcome, it comes from a figure often accused of exploiting ethnic and regional divides for political gain. Nigerians have heard similar appeals from him before, usually during public holidays, with little follow-through in legislative or public conduct. Words alone from a politician with his track record do little to shift the culture of division in high places.
