Kebbi State Police have killed a member of the Lakurawa terrorist group during an operation to stop cattle rustling along the Kamba-Kangiwa road in Dandi Local Government Area. The suspects had raided a farmhouse and seized 33 cows before being intercepted by joint police and military forces from the Army's Forward Operating Base at Kamba. A confrontation ensued, leading to the death of one bandit while another escaped despite sustaining gunshot wounds.
All 33 stolen cows were recovered and returned to the rightful owner, according to police. In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman confirmed the recovery and said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Commissioner of Police CP Umar M. Hadejia praised the security operatives for their swift action and coordination between the police and military units.
A single bandit killed and one injured—this is the scale of victory claimed in Kebbi. Given that 33 cows were recovered, CP Umar M. Hadejia's commendation of his officers suggests routine success, but such operations remain reactive rather than preventive. For rural communities in Dandi, the return of livestock matters, but the persistence of armed raids exposes ongoing security gaps. This incident, while resolved, underscores how banditry continues to dictate the rhythm of life in Nigeria's northwest.
