A final-year student of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Adeyemo Oluwafemi Temitope, has been found dead three days after he went missing. The 500-level Quantity Surveying student was last seen on Wednesday leaving Terminus Market in Jos, heading back to campus. His death was confirmed on Friday by Meshak Gimba, a 400-level Psychology student and close friend, who announced the news in a post on X. "Adeyemo Oluwafemi Temitope has now been confirmed dead. He has been found, but not alive," Mr Gimba wrote.
The circumstances surrounding Mr Temitope's death remain unknown. No official statement has been issued by UNIJOS or the Plateau State Police Command. The incident follows recent violence in Jos North, which had already triggered security concerns and led to the suspension of exams and evacuation of students. The development has intensified fear among students and parents, many of whom are calling for clarity and improved safety on and around campus.
Adeyemo Temitope's death occurs not in a vacuum but amid repeated campus disruptions and unaddressed security flaws in Jos North. The silence from UNIJOS and police after a final-year student vanishes and is found dead speaks louder than the official inaction. When institutions fail to secure students or offer timely information, trust erodes faster than order can be restored. This case adds to a growing list of unresolved campus tragedies with no accountability in sight.
