Three people were killed and one injured when gunmen attacked a group of youths returning from a mining site in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The deceased were identified as Luka Sandu Pam, 36, Samuel Davou, 38, and Deme Saidu, 35. They were ambushed while riding a motorbike from Gero, according to eyewitnesses. The attack occurred when a group of about 15 youths, all returning from the mining site, were suddenly fired upon by unidentified gunmen. Dung Davou, the Gyel Youth Leader, confirmed the incident, stating that sporadic gunfire caused the group to scatter. "We started hearing sporadic gunshots, and everyone scattered. Unfortunately, three of our people were killed," he said. He attributed the attack to suspected armed herdsmen and urged authorities to intervene in the ongoing violence targeting the community. The latest incident follows another attack just days earlier in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, where at least 10 people were killed by heavily armed gunmen.
Dung Davou's plea echoes after yet another deadly ambush, but no statement from any security official has matched the frequency of these attacks. With three dead in Nyamgo Gyel and 10 killed in Angwan Rukuba within days, the pattern points to a collapse of rural security coordination. The Plateau State government and federal security agencies have offered no tangible response beyond routine condemnations. Unless deployment and intelligence change, communities will continue to count bodies while leaders offer only words.
