Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, former Chairman of Agege Local Government, has received a formal endorsement from APC leaders in Agege Federal Constituency for his bid to represent the area in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election. The endorsement was announced on Friday, April 3, at a gathering on Capitol Road in Agege, where Hon. Taofeek Adaranijo, former federal lawmaker for the constituency, moved a motion in support of Egunjobi's aspiration. Adaranijo praised Egunjobi's tenure as local government chairman, citing infrastructure improvements, free school shuttle services, upgraded maternity clinics, and the establishment of Nigeria's first local government-owned Computer-Based Test centre. "Egunjobi has a record of performance while he was in the saddle of Agege Local Government," Adaranijo said.
Egunjobi, in his response, said his decision to run was not self-driven but a response to consistent demand from constituents. He pledged to prioritise consultation with residents if elected, stating, "I have served for eight years. I know what they want in my constituency." The event was attended by key political figures, including Hon. Johnson Babatunde, Chief Safari Adisa Adaranijo, Hon. Jubreel Abdul Kareem, Hon. Akinola Idowu, Chief Owolabi Dada, and several councilors, traditional leaders, and community representatives.
Endorsements like this cost nothing but promises. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi's past role as local government chairman gives him a track record to campaign on, not just slogans. Whether that record translates into voter confidence in 2027 depends on how many believe local government achievements guarantee national representation. For now, the backing of APC figures in Agege boosts his profile—but means little without primary victory.
