Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress. This development comes after Kwankwaso's departure from the New Nigeria Peoples Party. The former governor received his ADC membership card at a ceremony in Kano, which was attended by notable figures such as David Mark, the National Chairman of ADC, and former Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. However, a faction within the ADC, led by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has expressed concerns over Kwankwaso's entry into the party, citing the need for him to follow proper registration channels.

The faction has warned that those accompanying Kwankwaso are "political power mongers" who lack respect for democracy and sympathy for the poor. In contrast, the main ADC body has welcomed Kwankwaso, with National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi describing him as a "game-changer" who can help redefine Nigeria's politics. Since Kwankwaso's joining, the party has seen an increase in membership registration across Nigeria.
