Dr. Agbo Major, a factional National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has claimed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faces internal turmoil due to the recent defection of former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Major stated that Kwankwaso's entry into the ADC could trigger a rift within the party, citing concerns over ideological misalignment and leadership tensions. He argued that Kwankwaso's political style and growing influence may unsettle existing power structures in the ADC. Major made the remarks in Abuja without providing evidence of current internal disputes within the ADC.
The ADC has not issued an official response to Major's claims. Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in northern Nigerian politics, officially joined the ADC in 2022 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His move was seen as a strategic shift ahead of the 2023 general elections. Major leads a faction of the NNPP that is not universally recognised within the party's national structure. His comments come amid ongoing political realignments across several opposition parties in Nigeria.
Dr. Agbo Major's warning about Kwankwaso's impact on the ADC sounds less like prophecy and more like political projection. With Major heading a contested NNPP faction, his focus on instability in another party distracts from his own shaky legitimacy. If Kwankwaso's presence causes friction in the ADC, it will stem from ambition, not ideology.
