Senator Muhammed Sabo Nakudu has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Nakudu, who served two terms representing Jigawa South West senatorial district and chaired the Senate Committee on Petroleum "Downstream" in the 9th Assembly, formally submitted his resignation to his Sundimina ward in Birnin Kudu local government area last Friday. The defection was confirmed at a weekend event in Dutse attended by top ADC officials and a large crowd.
Nakudu is expected to run for governor of Jigawa state in 2027 under the ADC platform. He joins other notable politicians who have recently switched to the ADC, including Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, a three-time governorship aspirant, and Ubale Shitu, a prominent PDP chieftain. ADC leaders in Jigawa have welcomed Nakudu, with Hon Bashir Adamu Jumbo pledging equal opportunities within the party and urging unity around its vision. Nakudu, in his address, thanked his supporters and expressed commitment to advancing Jigawa and Nigeria.
A sitting senator switching to a smaller party just three years from an election signals a weakening grip of major parties on political loyalty. Nakudu's move to the ADC, following other high-profile exits, suggests growing dissatisfaction within established parties. For Nigerians, this could mean more fluid alliances and less ideological consistency in the run-up to 2027. The real test will be whether ADC can build structures to support a national campaign.
