Bar. Abdulsalami Ginsau, the newly elected Assistant Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, died in the early hours of Friday after falling into an elevator shaft at Chida International Hotel in Abuja. The incident occurred around 6:30 am when Ginsau, staying on the third floor, stepped out of his room and approached the elevator, unaware it had been damaged. Security footage reviewed by a source revealed that the lift had been overused and malfunctioning following the APC national convention, with as many as 12 to 14 people crammed into a cabin designed for 6 to 8.
The source said the elevator had been rendered inoperative by unruly conduct from delegates, mostly from a northern state, who ignored hotel staff directives and threatened workers during the event. Despite witnessing Ginsau's fall, two individuals in the hallway failed to alert hotel personnel. The hotel's senior staff, speaking anonymously, confirmed the misbehavior of delegates and expressed regret over the incident. She stated that management was cooperating with police and would review operational procedures.
Police from the Utako division and FCT Command conducted a forensic investigation before removing the body. The hotel extended condolences to Ginsau's family and the people of Kano State.
A man died because an elevator was abused and no one raised an alarm — not the delegates, not the bystanders, not the hotel staff until it was too late. Bar. Abdulsalami Ginsau's death was not just a mechanical failure but a cascade of negligence from party members who overran the hotel and ignored basic safety. When 150 rooms host nearly 2,000 people and staff are intimidated, it shows how little regard APC delegates have for order — and how easily preventable tragedies become fatal. This incident exposes the chaos that follows political gatherings when accountability is absent.
