Kamran Khan, 44, of Streatham High Road, Lambeth, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of 10 sexual offences against a girl under 13. The offences, which included rape and sexual assault by touching, occurred in multiple locations, such as the victim's home and a public park. Khan was sentenced on Wednesday at Inner London Crown Court, having been found guilty on January 15. He exploited a family's trust to access the child and allegedly threatened her with harm if she spoke out.

The case emerged in July 2025 when a family member raised concerns with police, triggering an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Child Abuse Investigation Team. Forensic and digital evidence, including material recovered from Khan's mobile phone and DNA confirmation of sexual contact, were pivotal in securing the conviction. Detective Constable Franky Green praised the victim's courage, stating, "I commend the courage of the victim and her family who came forward to bring light to Khan's terrible offences. Khan preyed on a defenceless child and used established relationships as a cover for his crimes." Khan has been placed on the sex offenders register and is subject to a restraining order and a sexual harm prevention order.

A 15-year sentence for raping a child might seem like justice served, but it arrives only after years of abuse and a delayed report. Khan exploited trust within a family circle, showing how predators often operate from within, not from shadows. For Nigerian families, this underscores how silence and fear can allow abuse to persist, even when the perpetrator is already close by. The real measure of progress isn't the sentence, but how quickly the next victim speaks — and is believed.
