Tunde Lemo, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and APC governorship aspirant in Ogun State, has praised President Bola Tinubu for supporting the development of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu-Remo. The airport, commissioned on Saturday in Ikenne Local Government Area, was inaugurated by President Tinubu alongside Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo. During the event, the president unveiled two new aircraft under Gateway Air, 1,000 electric motorcycles, 80 security vehicles, and a fleet of agricultural tractors. He also commissioned the Nigeria Customs Service Village, a Forward Operating Base, the Gateway Aviation Village, and the reconstructed Sapade–Ilishan Road, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway.
Lemo, speaking with journalists on Sunday, said the cargo capacity of the airport would significantly boost agricultural exports and contribute to Ogun State's GDP. He projected that the state could rank among the top three in Internally Generated Revenue within five years. President Tinubu commended Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for the projects, stating that his administration's economic reforms are delivering tangible outcomes. Lemo described the airport as a transformative development for export-driven economic growth.
Tunde Lemo's praise for Tinubu over the Ogun airport project reveals how political ambition aligns with federal visibility. His projection that Ogun could rank among the top three states in IGR within five years rests on the airport's success as an export hub. For Nigerians, especially in Ogun, this signals potential economic expansion tied to infrastructure delivery. However, the real test lies in whether the promised cargo operations translate into measurable gains for local farmers and businesses.
