Dr Adebowale Adedokun, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), has been named Public Sector Reformer of the Year at the Face of Africa Leadership Honour in London. The award was presented during an event organised by Triangle International Magazine, which brought together policymakers, business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora. The recognition follows a series of procurement reforms under Adedokun's leadership, including the digitisation of processes, stronger regulatory frameworks and improved compliance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
A statement by Zira Nagga, Head of Press and Public Relations at BPP, said the reforms have enhanced transparency and accountability in public procurement. Stakeholders noted the improvements have reduced bureaucratic delays and expanded opportunities for local and diaspora investors. The BPP chief accepted the award on Saturday, dedicating it to President Bola Tinubu and his administration. Adedokun described the president's leadership as the driving inspiration behind the reforms and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining global best practices in Nigeria's procurement system.
Honouring Adedokun in London does not mean procurement is working seamlessly in Abuja. The award reflects aspirations more than lived reality for most Nigerians who still face delays and opacity in government contracts. If the reforms have truly taken root, evidence should emerge in faster project delivery and broader private sector participation across MDAs. For now, the praise abroad remains a promise yet to be fully兑现 at home.
