The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what it describes as an inappropriately hostile birthday message to President Bola Tinubu.
The ADC's statement, which was issued to mark the President's birthday, was deemed unacceptable by the APC, which described it as a display of bitterness and political intolerance. The APC noted that the ADC's conduct reflects internal challenges and a lack of direction within the party.
In a statement, the APC referenced the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission's (ICPC) response to the personal loss of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as an example of civility and respect despite ongoing legal processes. The APC argued that the ADC's approach stands in contrast to such examples of civility and highlights a decline in political maturity within the opposition.
The party urged the ADC to focus on strengthening its internal structure and repositioning itself as a functional political platform. The APC reiterated its commitment to governance and party discipline, stating that it remains focused on delivering its mandate while dismissing distractions from opposition parties.
The ADC's statement, which was widely condemned by the APC, described the party's outburst as a "disgraceful and toxic outburst" and accused it of being "rudderless, frustrated, and clearly overwhelmed by its own irrelevance."
The ADC's toxic outburst is a stark reminder of the party's desperation and decline. The Lagos APC is right to call out the ADC for its lack of civility and respect, especially in a time that demands goodwill and restraint. The ADC's actions are a far cry from the dignified response shown by the ICPC during the personal loss of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The ADC's conduct reveals a party that has abandoned all pretence of maturity and is now consumed by desperation and hopelessness. This is not the kind of opposition Nigerians deserve, and it's time for the ADC to reposition itself as a functional political platform.
