Fatima Musa, a 35-year-old housewife, died suddenly on Sunday in the Paiko community of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred shortly after she finished eating breakfast.
Shuaibu Bala, a neighbour, reported that Fatima stood up to take a bath but suddenly collapsed. Her son raised an alarm, and neighbours quickly gathered around her. They called her husband, Musa Ibrahim, who was away at the time, and he rushed back to take her to the hospital. The doctors confirmed her dead, and she was subsequently buried according to Islamic rites.
Musa Ibrahim, the deceased's husband, is a retired staff member of the Gwagwalada Area Council. He had lost his first wife just a few months prior to his second wife's passing. The Chairman-elect of the council, Comrade Mohammed Kasim Ikwa, paid a condolence visit to the family, accompanied by other dignitaries, including former Abuja South lawmaker Alhaji Isah Egah Dobi.
A similar incident had occurred three weeks ago in the same council, where a mother of three died in her sleep.
The sudden death of Fatima Musa raises questions about the quality of healthcare services available in the Gwagwalada Area Council. The fact that a healthy-looking woman could die shortly after eating breakfast is a cause for concern. The council's Chairman-elect, Comrade Mohammed Kasim Ikwa, must take concrete steps to address the healthcare needs of residents. The people of Gwagwalada deserve better, and it is the responsibility of the council leadership to ensure that they receive adequate medical attention. The recent spate of deaths in the council highlights the need for urgent action to improve healthcare delivery.
