The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders has announced plans to embark on a comprehensive electoral sensitisation tour ahead of the 2027 general elections. The initiative aims to protect democracy, safeguard the sanctity of the ballot, and uphold the fundamental rights of citizens as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Goodluck Ibem, President General of the Coalition, explained that the tour is a response to the Constitution's provisions, particularly Section 14(2)(c), which ensures the participation of people in their government. He warned that any attempt to rig elections or manipulate electoral outcomes is a direct assault on the Constitution and a betrayal of Nigeria's democratic foundation.
The group has vowed to mobilise, educate, and empower citizens across the South East to defend their votes within the law. They have also issued a warning to anyone contemplating electoral malpractice in the region, stating that the will of the people is not negotiable and will not be compromised.
The security agencies have been called upon to strictly adhere to their constitutional responsibilities, maintaining law and order and not aiding or abetting illegality, as mandated by Section 215 of the Constitution.
