Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Nyesom Wike declared the party's internal crisis over following a media briefing in Abuja on Friday. He stated that the party's recent turmoil, marked by rival conventions and legal battles since 2025, had been resolved, and extended an open invitation to estranged members to return. "As far as I'm concerned, the convention has come and gone. People are trooping in. I will say, the door is open. Yes, we have had a crisis. Now the crisis is over," Wike said. He compared politics to football, rejecting a "fight to finish" mindset and urging unity for the party's growth.
Wike noted that former members were already expressing interest in rejoining, framing past conflicts as misunderstandings rather than irreparable splits. He criticised the "do-or-die" mentality in Nigerian politics, saying it obstructs reconciliation. "Politics is not a fight to finish. It's like a game, like a football. If you see it as a do or die, it becomes difficult to reconcile," he said. He added that political relevance comes from visibility and effort, not titles, and warned that inactive members may be overlooked in the future.
Wike's declaration that the PDP crisis is over does not erase the court cases or parallel conventions that defined 2025. His call for unity hinges on loyalty to his leadership, not structural reform. For Nigerian voters, this means more internal bargaining, not a renewed party platform. Reconciliation without accountability changes little for the electorate.
