The Plateau State Association USA, Inc. (PSA-USA) has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for recent killings in Plateau State. In a statement released on Friday and shared in Abuja, the group described the violence as unacceptable and urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive steps to end the bloodshed. Dr. Barth, National President of PSA-USA, said the spate of killings undermines national unity and erodes public confidence in security institutions. The association called for accountability, warning that continued inaction could deepen ethnic and religious tensions in the region. It also appealed to federal authorities to ensure justice for victims and their families.
A diaspora group is doing the job of domestic pressure that local voices are too afraid or unable to mount. Dr. Barth's statement exposes the shrinking space for dissent within Nigeria, where citizens often speak up only from the safety of foreign soil. When condemnation of violence depends on voices from abroad, it signals a failure of local advocacy and civic courage. This does not mean the demand for justice is less valid—only that its source reveals how constrained the national discourse has become.
