Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, honoured fallen Nigerian military personnel in a message released on Easter Sunday, urging unity between the armed forces and citizens to combat terrorism. Speaking via the Defence Headquarters' X platform, Oluyede linked the values of Easter—sacrifice, courage, hope, and the triumph of good over evil—to the ethos of military service. He stated that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ reflect the selflessness and commitment required in national defence.
Oluyede paid tribute to soldiers who died in the line of duty, calling their bravery and patriotism enduring parts of Nigeria's history. He acknowledged wounded troops and those deployed across operational areas, praising their resilience amid ongoing security challenges. He urged military personnel to remain united, vigilant, and professional in executing their constitutional roles.
The CDS stressed that overcoming Nigeria's security threats requires collaboration between the military, other security agencies, and local communities. He recognised the sacrifices of military families, especially those with deployed relatives during the Easter period. Oluyede called on all Nigerians to actively participate in the fight against terrorism, advocating a whole-of-society approach to national security.
