Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi, immediate past Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, has declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for Agege Federal Constituency I. He made the announcement at a political rally in Lagos, where he formally unveiled his bid under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Egunjobi, who served as local government boss until his tenure ended in 2023, described the move as a step toward broader representation for Agege residents. He pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and small business support if elected.

At the event, Egunjobi donated ₦1.5 million to each of the 13 political wards in the constituency, amounting to ₦19.5 million in total. He stated the funds were meant to strengthen party structures and deepen grassroots engagement. "This is not charity, it is investment in our collective future," Egunjobi said. His declaration comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, with multiple aspirants expected to emerge across party lines. Egunjobi's tenure as local government chairman was marked by road rehabilitation projects and tax reforms.

Spending nearly twenty million naira before the election cycle even begins sets a high barrier for less wealthy aspirants in Agege. Ganiyu Egunjobi's war chest signals that access to political office still hinges heavily on personal financial muscle. This kind of pre-campaign spending could deepen the perception that politics in the constituency is less about public service and more about economic leverage. For ordinary voters, the real test will be whether such spending translates into legislative performance or just stronger party loyalty.
