President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Ogun State on Saturday for the commissioning of several infrastructure projects. The visit will see the official launch of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, along with two aircraft under the Gateway Air brand in collaboration with ValueJet. A cargo operations demonstration by SAHCOL will also be showcased during the event. Among other projects to be commissioned are 1,000 electric bikes under the state's urban mobility programme, 80 security vehicles, and a fleet of agricultural tractors aimed at boosting local food production.
Tinubu will also commission the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Road and inspect the Nigeria Customs Service Village and the Forward Operating Base. The Gateway Aviation Village will be inaugurated, and the Sapade–Ilishan Road will be formally reconstructed and renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway. The president is expected to inspect the ongoing Sagamu–Benin Concrete Road project, a major federal highway upgrade. According to Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the projects span aviation, transportation, security, and agriculture.
Naming a reconstructed road after Tinubu before his visit suggests the symbolism matters as much as the tarmac. The distribution of 1,000 e-bikes and 80 security vehicles points to a push for visible governance gains ahead of the 2027 political cycle. If the Gateway Airport achieves full commercial operations, it could ease pressure on Lagos airspace — but that depends on sustained management, not just commissioning. For now, the event frames infrastructure as political theatre.
