The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a three-day-old baby abducted from his mother's makeshift home in Mararaba. The incident occurred on March 29, 2026, at approximately 5:45 am, when Aisha Bada, a 19-year-old resident of Ungwan Bako, Orange Market, reported that two men had broken into her uncompleted building, threatened her, and took her newborn son while she slept. Acting on intelligence, police arrested two women, Furera Abdulrahman, 35, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, on April 3, 2026, around 4:00 am. The baby was found in their custody and immediately reunited with his parents.
A statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the suspects confessed and named an accomplice still at large. The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, had ordered immediate investigation following the report. The child was taken to Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was examined and declared healthy. The police said the case remains under investigation as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspect.
Two women posing as abductors in a baby snatch that began with a claim of armed male intruders suggest a more complex plot than a simple kidnapping. The swift arrest and confession point to possible prior surveillance or insider knowledge, raising questions about vulnerabilities in informal settlements like Ungwan Bako. For many young mothers in similar conditions, safety is as fragile as the structures they sleep in. This case exposes how easily crime can exploit poverty and weak housing security.
