Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has dismissed Malam Garba Ahmed, a staff member of the Registry Department, following allegations of involvement in the illegal mobilisation of unqualified students for the National Youth Service Corps. The dismissal was approved at the university's 176th Governing Council meeting on April 1, 2026, as confirmed in a bulletin issued by the institution. Ahmed was found guilty of misconduct for unauthorisedly uploading names of ineligible candidates for NYSC mobilisation. The Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, confirmed the dismissal, stating it took immediate effect and was carried out in line with due process. He emphasized the university's zero-tolerance policy toward gross misconduct and warned that similar violations by other staff would result in strict disciplinary action.
The dismissal of a Registry staff member at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, over NYSC mobilisation fraud signals a firm institutional stance that could deter similar misconduct in other tertiary institutions. Nigerian students stand to benefit from increased integrity in official processes, ensuring only qualified graduates are mobilised for national service.
