The Police Command in Abuja has taken into custody four individuals suspected of using the name of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to swindle a military officer out of N150 million. The suspects allegedly claimed to be working with the minister and the Director of Land in the FCT Administration to dupe their victims.
According to the investigation, one of the suspects was arrested on Tuesday and is being held for defrauding a retired Major General and several others of over N150 million. The victims were lured into believing that the suspect was involved in a land transaction at Guzape II Cadastral Zone in Abuja.
The suspect allegedly collected over N150 million from the victims, claiming that he would deliver land documents to them. However, during interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had accomplices in the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The four suspects are currently under investigation, and their fate will be determined by the outcome of the inquiry.
The brazen impersonation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, by these four suspects is a stark reminder of the ease with which scammers operate in Nigeria. The fact that they were able to swindle a military officer out of N150 million is a testament to the sophistication of their operation. The involvement of individuals from the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration raises serious questions about the level of corruption within the government. The people of Nigeria deserve better, and it is the responsibility of those in power to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The consequences of such actions are far-reaching, and it is imperative that those responsible are held accountable.
