Four suspects were arrested during a joint police and vigilante raid at Hausa Market near the Customs Checkpoint along the Benin–Asaba Expressway on April 5, 2026. The operation, conducted by the Delta State Police Command's Buffalo Team and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Achalla Branch, followed credible intelligence. It began at approximately 1709 hours and targeted individuals suspected of drug trafficking.
Those arrested are Yakubu Umar, 19; Galiu Adamu, 17; Nuhu Musa, 16; and Zaraduwu Usman, 21. Authorities recovered large quantities of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including Colorado, Canadian Loud, weeds believed to be Indian hemp, Tramadol, and Swinol. Two locally fabricated battle axes and ₦144,000 in cash were also seized during the raid. Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the details in a statement issued on Monday. All suspects and recovered items are currently in police custody as investigation continues.
The arrest of three minors among the four suspects points to the growing involvement of young people in drug-related activities in Delta State. With individuals as young as 16 implicated, the situation suggests that illicit drug networks may be exploiting vulnerable youth. This trend could signal deeper issues in access to education, employment, and social support systems in the area. For Nigerians, especially in hotspot communities, the presence of drugs like Colorado and Canadian Loud in local markets raises concerns about public health and safety.
