The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State has dismantled a major drug operation after seizing 1,378 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa from an illegal warehouse. Commandant Mitchel Ofoyeju confirmed the arrest of Roland Owie, 37, a suspected cartel member, during a raid in Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area. The drugs, packaged in 125 bags of dried skunk cannabis, were recovered from the facility.

Ofoyeju described the seizure as a major blow to the cartel's distribution network, noting that the operation disrupted supply chains aimed at streets, schools, and communities. He emphasized that every kilogram confiscated weakens trafficking syndicates and reduces the risk of addiction among youth. The NDLEA's focus on supply suppression remains central to its enforcement strategy.

Ofoyeju's admission that the raid cut off supply routes to vulnerable groups exposes how deeply cartels embed themselves in local communities. For Nigerians, this means the NDLEA's work directly shields young people from exposure to harmful substances. The sheer scale of the seizure—over a ton of drugs—also reveals the audacity of these syndicates. Without sustained pressure, such operations will only multiply.
